What is Reiki?

Rei = Universal / Ki  = Life force energy

The literal translation of reiki is ‘universal life force energy.’ It’s an energy therapy where the reiki energy flows from my hands to you as you lay down and relax.

What is universal life force energy?

All living things—people, plants and animals—have essentially the same energy flowing through us, keeping us alive.

How does reiki work?

This energy has an innate intelligence, which is a term used to describe its natural ability to organise, maintain functioning and restore health.

An example of this is when we cut ourselves. All we have to do is make sure the cut is clean. There’s no need to will our body to heal the cut. The innate intelligence of the Life inside us knows there’s something that requires attention, to be restored to health, and so will go there to heal it.

What is reiki healing?

When you have a reiki session, the innate intelligence of the reiki energy (i.e. universal life force energy) knows where to go and what to do for whatever you require most at the time. The cool thing is that it does that on all levels: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

Physically, reiki assists the natural process of healing to occur more quickly, and can relieve aches and pains. Emotionally, mentally and spiritually it can clear blockages to allow energy to flow and restore balance. It can clear the emotions and assist us to let go of emotional pain, calm the mind, and clear negative thinking.

What is reiki

The most common effect of reiki is a feeling of inner peace and calm.

Will reiki for me?

Ultimately, what this means is that reiki is able to assist with almost anything.

Every person is different, so each person will have a different result. For some people, the changes are immediate and obvious. For others the shifts that happen are less noticeable, because the shift that’s occurred has been one of clearing a negative thought, yet they do notice that somehow something is different.

What is reiki good for?

In my experience as a reiki practitioner, the most common reasons people come to see me are:

  • Feeling stressed or burnt out
  • Having trouble sleeping
  • Experiencing anxiety or depression
  • Going through an emotional crisis
  • Struggling with challenging emotions
  • Going through a transition
  • Experiencing health problems
  • To proactively support wellbeing
  • As a last resort when nothing else has worked
  • For healing

What are the benefits of reiki?

The range of experience can be anything from a subtle shift to obvious changes.

  • relieve stress
  • relax deeply
  • rejuvenate from burn out
  • feel inner peace and calm
  • quiet the mental noise
  • clear emotional upsets
  • relieve physical aches and pains
  • boost the immune system
  • relieve digestive issues
  • recharge your batteries
  • sleep better
  • feel better

As a result of clearing stress physically, mentally and emotionally, we naturally feel better. When we feel better we feel more connected within ourselves. And when we feel more connected to ourselves, we also feel more naturally connected to other people, and to life in general—everything seems to flow better.

Answering the question, ”What is reiki?” is challenging to share simply through words. Whilst inner peace and calm are the most common effects of reiki, each person experiences reiki differently, and on different days!
